About Me

I am a passionate developer with an eye for detail. I am deeply interested in HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) and UX Design. I enjoy bringing my designs to life in a working system.

My goal when designing is to create an intuitive interface for the user to interact with; when developing, I believe in finding the most efficient solution with the DRY (Don't repeat yourself) principle always sitting at the back of my mind.

Interests

Psychology, Philosophy, Arts, Design, Sociology, Health & Fitness

I am a self-taught artist (I didn't study art). I am a traditional artist, but I do dabble in digital art. The subject matter that I enjoy drawing is the female figure. People have described my art as anime and fantasy. I have been actively investing in my art since 2015, but I remember first intentionally drawing when I was 7.

I also enjoy sewing, and I sometimes make clothes for myself.

I enjoy reading - NOTABLE BOOKS I'VE READ

  • Pragmatic Programmer (Author: )
  • Thinking Fast and Slow (Author: )
  • Sophies World (Author: Jostine Gaarder)
  • Aristotle's Way (Author: Edith Hall)

Yoga has helped me center myself, gain a good mental space, and build my fitness at the same time. I enjoy running as well as hiking.

Hostex (2015 - 2020)

Hostex is a Food and Hospitality show that is run by Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery. Sketch Advertising has hosted and developed the Hostex website and 13 other websites for Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery since before I started there in 2015. In 2017 it became my responsibility to manage and maintain the entire portfolio while under the guidance of my boss Travis Kriel.

In 2018 I was tasked with designing the new template for the entire portfolio because the websites were updated on the last day that the exhibition had run. The current design is the design that I created. I laid all the elements out in Adobe InDesign and created many graphical elements in Adobe Illustrator. Once the design was completed, we would receive feedback from the client and start development with any changes that the client had made.

The websites were developed in Dreamweaver with HTML, CSS, SASS, JavaScript, and jQuery. The Bootstrap 4 framework was used. A large portion of the websites ran off an API that we had created to retrieve data from a database (through PHP MySQL) and return the data as a JSON object. The contents of the JSON object was then displayed throughout the website using PHP. The entire website was developed as a desktop, tablet and mobile-friendly website as demonstrated in the videos attached. The responsiveness of a website was done concurrently with developing the desktop website.

At least 2 or 3 months before the exhibition took place a popup was added to the website that advertises the registration for the show. This popup checked whether a cookie for the popup already existed and if it did not then the popup would show. The cookie was set to last 24hours and would automatically delete itself if 24hours had passed. This was added to every page of the website since you never know which page will be the users landing page.

The blog section was constructed by using the Wordpress API.

We also used Google Analytics and AdWords on the websites and part of my responsibilities included reporting on Analytics and AdWords for the client to review. In the report, I would explain which pages of the website were receiving the most traffic and I had to try and deduce what was causing that specific page to receive more traffic than the other pages. I also had to look at the low performing pages and suggest ways of increasing traffic to that page. We often noticed that when marketing attempts were done by the client the traffic of the page usually increased proving to the client that their marketing attempts were successful. We looked at the AdWords ads keywords and suggested new keywords to replace low performing ones and showed the client their CTR for each ad, when the CTR was low we suggested improvements if any needed to be done or just informed the client on how well their ads were doing.
